This condo commando audacity has now reached the stage of a counter lawsuit.
What is a condo commando?
Here are three definitions gleaned from the Internet:
- The condo commando is an egocentric person on a condominium's board of directors who rules by intimidation, putting his/her interests ahead of others, abusive to the property manager and any board member who gets in the way. Dominates meetings, won't let others speak. Can be prone to angry outbursts.
- The condo commando is (a) a condominium resident who diligently watches for and reports violations of building rules and regulations; (b) a politically active person who campaigns within or lobbies for the condominium in which they live.
- Condo commandos are little old ladies (on occasion, little old men), w
ho devote their entire life to paying attention to, complaining about, and ordering everyone around who lives in, visits, serves on the boards of, manages, and/or works for the condo where they live. They have no other life, as their children can't stand them either. Frequently of a specific ethnic extraction or belonging to a group with a common interest (playing golf, bridge or pinochle), and found living in South Florida.
Here are the facts that build the foundation for the message every unit owner and prospective unit owner of the Downtown Dadeland Condominium needs to review on the eve of the first significant step taken by the unit owners — electing the team of your neighbors who volunteer to lead your condominium associations and shape the destiny of your home.

I know the type. We have one in the building who lives on the top floor just above me.
Instead of spending his retirement on the golf course, he gets "involved" trying to be the boss of the condo like he was at his job before retirement.
The worst part is he is working into his own pocket and squeezes the developer for special favors. The developer is still in charge. Can you imagine what will happen after the developer is gone and he is president of the condo association? He's a big fellow and has big empty pockets.
Should a single woman be concerned?
We have a condo commando in our condo. He’s our president. As soon as we moved in he made us remove our Mezuzah because it is in violation of the condo rules to have anything personal in the common are. He reminded us that the outside of the front door is common area. Now hear this kicker. He has a fancy door mat in front of his front door. Who is going to tell him that the President is violating the condo rules? Maybe he expects everybody who visits his unit to kneel on the mat before being ushered into his home. That gives him special privileges as President. Does it? What do you think?
Thank you for the warning. We were planning to buy a unit in Downtown Dadeland.
We were lied to by everybody when we bought our unit in the Downtown Dadeland. Look at the construction mess. The gym and pool are still not open and we really looked forward to getting the opportunity to exercise. The security is a joke. Thieves are stealing left and right in the lobbies. and on and on. We think we will sue to get our money back.
We bought a unit in Downtown Dadeland and are very unhappy because nothing is what they promised and now we have to worry what will happen when the condo commandos run the condo. I am going to talk to my attorney.
I have been trying to get things fixed in our apartment and always got the run-around. The Downtown Dadeland sales people were falling all over us and made lots of promises. That all stopped after the closing. How come this guy Donelan gets all those special favors done? He's not even the President yet.
It looks like this Allen Donelan fellow is working for the U.S. Postal Service. Does the government allow their civil servants to conduct personal and condominium business on government time and even use the government email system to conduct personal business? With an email address adonelan@usps.gov he is certainly working for the U.S. Post Office. No wonder our postage rates keep going up!

I live in the same building on a lower floor with Mr. Donelan. I am very disturbed over how he speaks of the ladies at the condo management office. He thinks they don't know their job. That's terrible. Sure we have problems. But with his attitude toward management we certainly will not be able to solve our problems. How can he be at the management level at the Post Office with that kind of attitude? I hope more people read this because they need to know what's going on.
